Weekly learning update 11th September 2015
Our Learning this Week
Reception 11th September 2015
Language, Literacy and Communication
We started our Jolly Phonics with the letter sound “s”. We played phonics games on the whiteboard and had a go at writing an “s” in the porridge tray. We explored objects in a water themed bag, we talked about what they were and then had a go at writing labels for the objects.
|
Mathematical Development
We have been using Numicon to help us count and placing the pieces in the correct order in a number line. We used the interactive whiteboard to play a number sequencing game. |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We have introduced our topic “Pitter Patter Puddle Play” which is all about water. The children came up with some fantastic ideas when asked what they knew about water. Their knowledge and ideas will give us the starting point for planning future activities. |
Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
We have been discussing feelings related to our class mood boards. We have also discussed appropriate ways to play with each other outside on the big yard.
|
Creative Development
Children have been exploring a variety of resources in the creative area of the classroom. We have been learning some Autumn songs in the hall with the rest of the school. Our favourite is “Big Red Combine Harvester”
|
Physical Development
We did games in the hall with Jonathon which helped develop our listening skills.
Don’t forget to bring your child’s named PE kit into school for Monday afternoons.
|
Welsh Language Development
We have been reminding ourselves of all the Welsh we use in the classroom and the children have been amazing at remembering lots of it! Over the next few weeks we will be having fun learning more Welsh words using Tedi Twt to help us. |
Anything else…
This week’s home challenge is for children for find as many things in the home that use water. You can make a list together by drawing pictures or writing, or you could tweet photos to the school Twitter page @BYM_Primary Don’t forget to bring your signed forest school consent forms back to school. Have a good weekend! |
Welcome to Reception 2015
Welcome to Reception September 2015
Your child has officially started “big school” which is an exciting time for both you and your child; however we understand that you both may have worries about this new experience. Staff in both reception classes will support your children through every step of the new experiences, such as sitting with them during lunch time and going outside with them during playtime. .
If you have any questions about any aspect of your child settling into Reception, please talk to the class teacher.
Lunches and snack
School provides a healthy balanced lunch for just £2.20 a day. You may be entitled to free school meals – ask at the office for more information. If your child prefers sandwiches, send them in with a heathy packed lunch. We ask that you include some fruit or vegetables that your child likes and healthy drinks such as squash or water. Please don’t put any fizzy drinks in their lunch box.
We will still have a healthy snack in the morning before break. If you want your child to have some fruit please send in £1.25 for the week. If you would prefer to pay this for the half term, then it will be £8 for this half term. Children will still receive their daily milk at the end of every day during story time.
Our Topic
Our topic this term will be “Pitter Patter Puddle Play” and your children will be learning:
- About water in it’s different forms,
- How water is used in the home,
- About being safe near water,
- About wet weather, including storms,
- About animals that live in ponds of streams,
- How to use volume and measures in practical activities,
- How to record their ideas, feelings and experiences through drawing, mark-making and emergent writing,
- That water is important for seeds and plants.
Forest Schools
We are fortunate to have funding to provide Reception with a weekly experience of Forest Schools. This is an exciting opportunity for our child to have learning experiences that are unique to the outdoors.
As there are two Reception classes, Mrs. Miller’s class will go this half term and Mrs. Amirat’s class will go next half term. For more information there will be a meeting on Wednesday 9th September at 9am in the school hall.
This meeting will also be a welcome meeting for Reception.
PE
Reception will have PE on a Monday afternoon. They will have to bring shorts or jogging bottoms, t-shirt and trainers/daps. name on it. Trainers with Velcro will be easier for the younger children to remove and put back on.
Coats
Please remember to also label your child’s coat. It is hard for us to remember whose coats is whose and even though we encourage children to be independent, they can also forget which coat is theirs!
