Our Learning Week

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 4th March 2016

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

In the last two weeks Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound Q and they have experienced a WELSH WEEK. The children have made cawl and they learnt about the various vegetables mixed into the soup. The children then learned a poem about cawl and they performed it in the Eisteddfod on St David’s Day. The children have tasted welsh cheese and welsh cakes. The children dressed up for World Book Day and they listened to a variety of stories as well as reading activities.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 10. The children have been learning to count in welsh. The class have acquired giant Numicon shapes and the children have enjoyed counting balls and objects. They have learnt the colours and shapes using a giant feely bag!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

.

The children have been taste adventurers again this week! They have tasted all the vegetables in the cawl. They have learnt about St David and how important he was in Wales.  The children have experienced an Eisteddfod and they entered an art competition. The children have looked at a welsh flag and they now know about the leek and daffodil as symbols of Wales.

 

 

 

 

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.

The children are getting very good at lining up and this week we have seen some lovely moments of caring and sharing.  The children have acquired some new toys and we have been pleased to see good examples of group sharing and respect for the new items.

 Creative Development.

 The children have made daffodils and leeks this week. They have made Mothering Sunday cards and they have enjoyed trying to copy the dragon on the welsh flag. The children have made patchwork quilts using paper and coloured squares.

Physical Development

The children have practiced using scissors this week. They have cut out daffodil shapes and used the scissors to cut around dragon shapes. The children have used mark making tools to create pictures of themselves.

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard. They performed their poem in welsh for the Eisteddfod and they have learnt vegetable vocabulary linked with the poem.

Thank you for your support again this week.  Next week we have the photographer in school on Thursday. I will also be holding parent consultations throughout the week. Can I remind everyone about fruit money and to return book bags and homework. Diolch yn fawr.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 5/2/16

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound O.The children have shared stories with O in the title. They have especially liked the story of Owl Babies and they have enjoyed learning about where owls live and how they hunt. The children have role played in the pretend Opticians and have learnt about what happens when eyes are tested for glasses. The children have learnt how to form the letter O using paint, foam and printing techniques.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 10.The children have practiced ‘Odd one out’ this week and they have recognised some odd numbers. The children have ordered numbers 1-10 and they have used the numicon to make patterns. We have practiced the directional language-under and over.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 

The children have been taste adventurers again this week! They have tasted olives and oranges and they have made onion soup. The children have looked inside an onion to see how it is formed in layers. The children have watched videos of owls flying and how they swoop down to catch their prey. The children have learnt about what happens in an optician’s shop and why it is important to look after your eyes. The children have sorted old and new toys.

 

 

 

 

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.

The children are getting very good at lining up and this week we have seen some lovely moments of caring and sharing. We have talked about looking after older people this week and how they need our help at times. I have been very pleased with the good manners shown this week and we are hearing please and thankyou more often now. Well done!

 Creative Development.

 The children have made owls and they have printed with onions and oranges. The children have painted 0 shapes and used tubes to print 0 shapes. The children have used chalks in the outside area to create shapes.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. We have learnt the rhyme ‘Oranges and Lemons’ and we have played games using  directional and positional language like on,off and opposite.

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard.

Thank you for your support again this week. Next week we will be learning all about the letter P. We will be having a pirate and princess party on Friday 12th. Everyone is welcome to dress up!

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 29/1/16

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound n. The children have shared stories with n in the title and they have especially enjoyed the Noddy stories.They  have played in a pretend newsagents shop and they have learnt related vocabulary. The children have made nests using twigs and grass from the outside area and they have talked about how a bird makes a nest. They have learnt some new nursery rhymes including the Grand Old Duke of York.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 10.The children have been matching numicon shapes to the numbers and they have been very impressive! The children have been learning to form the numbers 1-5 in foam and paint. The children have learnt  some new counting songs.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 

The children have been taste adventurers again this week! Tasted nectarines and noodles and some of us tried eating with chopsticks! The children have learnt about what happens in a newsagent shop and what you might find there.They have tasted Nice biscuits and they managed to find the n on them.

 

 

 

 

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk. They have become very confident using the mood board and like to tell Rhodri how they are feeling. This week we have talked about saying please and thankyou again as it is so important. We have also been practicing lining up in two lines and we have a competition every day!

 Creative Development.

 The children have  made pasta necklaces and they have made newspaper collages following the shape of the letter n. The children have made chocolate nests used shredded wheat and we counted 3 eggs into every nest. The children also iced their heart biscuits for St Dwynwen’s Day.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. We enjoyed marching around the classroom whilst singing The Grand Old Duke of York!

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 22/1/16

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound m. The children have listened to stories with m in the title and they have learnt rhymes beginning with m. They have collected items beginning with m and placed them in our basket. The children have role played this week using a pretend market stall. The children have learnt the new vocabulary associated with a market stall and used money to pay for their shopping.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.The children have been practicing the concept of ’one more’ in numeracy and they have used pretend money in the market stall.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 The children have learnt about mice this week. They have tasted melon,mango, marmite on toast and marmalade. The children have played with mud and made mud pies and muddy handprints in the outside area. The children have tasted marshmallows and made marshmallow men.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. We have talked about good manners this week and how it is important to say please and thankyou.

 Creative Development.

 The children have painted and made mice masks. They have made marshmallow men. The children have made models of their favourite animal using the construction equipment.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and their cutting skills are improving. We have enjoyed playing outside with the balls and using the bikes and scooters. The children have learnt to move like different animals.

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories. The children have been baking their heart biscuits for St Dwynwen’s Day next week.

Nursery week ending 15/1/16

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound L. The children have listened to Ladybird stories and they have learnt some new rhymes including Little Bo Peep and Lucy Locket. They have collected items beginning with L and placed them in our basket. The children have based their work around the story ‘What the Ladybird heard’. They have role played the story. They have found out about lemons  and limes. They have learnt new vocabulary like liquorice.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.The children have made ladybirds and ordered the numbers 1-5 on them. The children have have explored the terms longer and shorter and used strawberry laces to compare. They have used strawberry laces to compare long and short.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 The children have learnt about ladybirds and light sources this week. this week. They have tasted lemon and lime and lemon curd. They have tasted liquorice.  The children have investigated what litter is and why it is important  not to drop litter on the floor.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. We have been talking about love and what we can do to show we love our family and friends.

 Creative Development.

 The children have painted ladybirds and printed with lemon and limes. They have printed with lego. The children have learnt new movement songs and learnt to move like leopards and lions.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and their cutting skills are improving. We have enjoyed playing outside with the balls and using the bikes and scooters.

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard. The children talked about leeks this week and why they are important to welsh people as our emblem.

Nursery week ending 8/1/16

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound k. The children have listened to Kipper stories and stories about kittens and Kangeroos. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with k and placed them in our basket. The children have based their work around the rhyme Old King Cole. They have role played the rhyme. They have found out about kittens ,kangeroos and koala bears. They have learnt new vocabulary like khaki and kiwi fruit.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.The children have made kites and ordered the numbers 1-5 on them. The children have made their own kites and counted the strings to attach to them. The children have revised their counting rhymes and learnt some new ones.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 The children have learnt about kangeroos and koalas this week. They have learnt about Khaki and camouflage and they have tasted kiwi fruit. They have made fruit kebabs and talked about healthy eating.

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound j. The children have listened to stories with i in the title eg Jack and the Beanstalk and Jumping Jill. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with j and placed them in our basket. The children have based their work around the rhyme Jack and Jill. They have role played the rhyme. They have learnt Little Jack Horner and the Jiggling Jelly song.

Mathematical DevelopmentThe children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.The children have made beanstalks and ordered the numbers 1-5 on them. The children have made their own beanstalks and discussed the height of their beanstalk and used taller/shorter to explain the difference in height.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World The children have learnt about jungle animals this week. We have identified their favourite ones and talked about where they live and what they eat. We have talked about camouflage and how they hide themselves. The children have made jam tarts and eaten jam on toast. The children have made jelly and talked about the melting process.

They have practiced good sitting and listening. The children have been practicing lining up to go to the hall for practice and learning how to sit on the stage correctly to give a good performance. Rehearsals are going well!
 Creative Development. The children have painted jellyfish and created tentacles from tissue paper. The children have made beanstalks to order numbers. Physical DevelopmentThe children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and practiced further with scissors. They have played jumping games.

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound i. The children have listened to stories with i in the title eg  I want to be a princess.They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with i and placed them in our basket. The children have based their work around the rhyme Incy Wincy Spider. They have role played the rhyme and they have found out information about spiders and webs,

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.  The children have sorted insects into groups by colour and size. The children have looked at the number eight as spiders have eight legs.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

.

The children have learnt about spiders this week. They have looked at a spider spinning a web in slow motion. They have looked at images of spiders and discovered the different sizes. The children have investigated ice and they have held an ice cube. We have talked about melting and freezing. The children have tasted ice cream and iced biscuits. They have made spiders using mini doughnuts and pretzels.

I am especially pleased with their efforts to say please and thankyou as we have been reminded about good manners again this week. The children have been reminded about how important tooth brushing is and how to brush properly. We have talked about washing hands this week as it is important after using the toilet and before eating snack.

 The children have painted spiders and made Indian headdresses using feathers. The children have painted the letter I and collaged the shape of the letter,

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and  using scissors. They have practiced jumping in and out of boxes.

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard.

Language, Literacy and Communication 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound h. The children have listened to stories with g in the title eg The Little Red Hen and Handa’s surprise. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with h and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes linked with the sound eg Heads, Shoulders,Knees and Toes and Hickery, Dickery Dock. The children have learnt new vocabulary linked with the sound eg heart,hedgehog etc.

Mathematical DevelopmentThe children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5. The children have learnt about height and used the terms shortest to tallest. The children have weighed out ingredients to make cakes this week and used the weighing scale.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

The children have learnt about hedgehogs this week and they have made hedgehog cakes. They have tasted hot chocolate and eaten hot dogs. The children have talked about helping other children who might be ill or disabled and how we raise money to help them on ‘Children in Need Day’. The children have talked about people who help us like the police, doctors and the fire service.

The children have created hedgehogs using dough and matchsticks. The children have made hats and decorated them with Pudsey pictures. The children have made happy faces for our display board. Physical DevelopmentThe children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and  practiced using scissors. The children have played games with the hoola hoops and we have learnt the game’ Here we go round the Mulberry bush’.
Welsh Language DevelopmentThe children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard.                       Anything else…

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound g. The children have listened to stories with g in the title eg The Gruffalo and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with g and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes liked with the sound eg Goosey,Goosey Gander… The children have tried to recount the story of Goldilocks using puppets. The children have responded well to recognising the letter g in the outside/inside

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills this week and they have been learning to recognise numbers 1-5 and matching corresponding amounts to the numbers. They have learnt new number rhymes and role played Five Little Speckled Frogs and Five Currant Buns. The children have been collecting five items from the outside area to make their own indoor garden.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

.

The children have learnt about the role of guide dogs this week and the important job they do. They have listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot. The children have tasted grapefruit and garibaldi biscuits. They have made grated cheese on toast in our cooking sessions. The children have enjoyed making their own garden and collecting items from the outside area. The children have looked at images of different kinds of gardens.

The children have been reminded about how important tooth brushing is and how to brush properly. We have talked about safety in the outside area and we must take our time. The children are learning about safety when using equipment like scissors.

 Creative Development.

 The children have painted with green,gold and grey.They have made glittery fireworks. The children have made indoor gardens using paper plates and items from the outside area eg grass,leaves etc.They have made poppies to remind them of brave people.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills  and practiced using scissors and a cheese grater.

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions.

Thank you for completing the homework with the children and also a big thank you for the contributions to the poppy fund. Next Friday is Children in Need day and the children can dress up as a superhero or as anything they wish. We will be asking for a small contribution towards this worthwhile cause. Diolch yn fawr.
