Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 6/11/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

 

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound g. The children have listened to stories with g in the title eg The Gruffalo and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with g and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes liked with the sound eg Goosey,Goosey Gander… The children have tried to recount the story of Goldilocks using puppets. The children have responded well to recognising the letter g in the outside/inside

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills this week and they have been learning to recognise numbers 1-5 and matching corresponding amounts to the numbers. They have learnt new number rhymes and role played Five Little Speckled Frogs and Five Currant Buns. The children have been collecting five items from the outside area to make their own indoor garden.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

.

The children have learnt about the role of guide dogs this week and the important job they do. They have listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot. The children have tasted grapefruit and garibaldi biscuits. They have made grated cheese on toast in our cooking sessions. The children have enjoyed making their own garden and collecting items from the outside area. The children have looked at images of different kinds of gardens.                                                        

 

 

 

 

 

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk. They have become very confident using the mood board and like to tell Rhodri how they are feeling. The older children continue to help the younger ones and this is very pleasing to see! I am especially pleased with their efforts to say please and thankyou as we have been reminded about good manners again this week. The children have been reminded about how important tooth brushing is and how to brush properly. We have talked about safety in the outside area and we must take our time. The children are learning about safety when using equipment like scissors.

 Creative Development.

 The children have painted with green,gold and grey.They have made glittery fireworks. The children have made indoor gardens using paper plates and items from the outside area eg grass,leaves etc.They have made poppies to remind them of brave people.

Physical Development

The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills  and practiced using scissors and a cheese grater.

Welsh Language Development

The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions.

Thank you for completing the homework with the children and also a big thank you for the contributions to the poppy fund. Next Friday is Children in Need day and the children can dress up as a superhero or as anything they wish. We will be asking for a small contribution towards this worthwhile cause. Diolch yn fawr.

Our Learning week.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 16/10/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound f. The children have listened to stories with f in the title. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. The children have used foam to try to create the shape. They have collected items beginning with f and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes liked with the letter sound eg Farmer in the den. The children have responded well to the stories of The Frog Prince  and The Rainbow Fish. The children have role played farm animals using masks. They are starting to use the word ‘because’ to explain their reasoning during our Ben and Betty language sessions.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and they have practiced counting to four and five. The children have looked at flat shapes. The children have learnt directional vocabulary eg front, first etc. The children have learnt some new number rhymes and learnt to count to five in welsh. The children have used measuring /weighing skills in cooking sessions and made flapjacks.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

 

 The children have learnt about fish this week and where it comes from. They have looked at farms and farm animals. The children have created their own farms using small world animals. The children have made flapjacks in their cooking sessions and tasted French bread. The children have enjoyed making footprints and finger prints in paint.

They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk. They have become very confident using the mood board and like to tell Rhodri how they are feeling. The older children continue to help the younger ones and this is very pleasing to see! I am especially pleased with their efforts to say please and thankyou as we have been reminded about good manners again this week. The children have been reminded about how important tooth brushing is and how to brush properly. We have talked about safety in the outside area and we must take our time. We have also talked about keeping safe away from kitchen c;leaning products and medicines.

 Creative Development.

 The children have made foot prints and finger prints. The children have created feathery pictures. The children created rainbow fish after listening to the story and they decorated them with rainbow stripes.

Physical Development

 

The children have practiced fine and gross motor skills this week. The children have been exercising all week and learning to do star jumps and bending and stretching and learning to keep fit!

Welsh Language Development

The children have practiced simple greetings and revised the weather in welsh. They help to change the weather board. We have revised feelings/colour vocabulary. The children are learning to ask for snack in welsh. The children have learnt simple welsh songs.. The children are responding well to welsh stories on the whiteboard and listening to spoken welsh. Bendigedig!

Thanks for all your support again this week. Please remember that library books are changed on a Friday and they need to be returned in a book bag.Next week we will be making soup as part of our Harvest celebrations and we will sell it to raise funds for our chosen charity. Diolch yn fawr.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 9/10/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound e. The children have listened to stories with e in the title. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with e and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes liked with the letter sound eg chicken and egg song. The children have responded well to the stories of Elmer the elephant. They are starting to use the word ‘because’ to explain their reasoning.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills this week and they have been investigating circles,   squares and triangles. The children have been on a shape walk in the outdoor area and they have made egg sandwiches using the shapes. They have made shape pictures and printed using different shapes. The children have learnt some new number rhymes and they have learnt the shape song. The children have cut shapes using dough.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

 

 The children have learnt all about eggs this week. They have looked inside a real egg and learnt to identify the shell,yolk and white of the egg. They have made egg sandwiches and cooked egg in the microwave oven. The children have investigated the colour of eggs and where they come from. They have been on an egg hunt in the outside area. The children have looked at images of elephants and discussed how they live. The children have also talked about electricity and which household items need electricity to work.

They have become very confident using the mood board and like to tell Rhodri how they are feeling. The older children continue to help the younger ones and this is very pleasing to see! I am especially pleased with their efforts to say please and thankyou as we have been reminded about good manners again this week. The children have been reminded about how important tooth brushing is and how to brush properly. We have talked about safety in the outside area and we must take our time.

 The children have used patchwork patterns to create their own Elmer the elephant. The children have made shape pictures using triangles,squares and circles. The children have made collages using items powered by electricity. The children have decorated their own egg shape with patterns.

Physical Development

 

The children have practiced fine and gross motor skills this week. The children have been exercising all week and learning to do star jumps and bending and stretching. They have run egg and spoon races.

Welsh Language Development

The children have practiced simple greetings and revised the weather in welsh. They help to change the weather board. The children have learnt a song and the welsh word for egg. We have revised feelings/colour vocabulary. The children are learning to ask for snack in welsh. The children have listened to simple welsh stories.

Nursery Weekly News.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 2/10/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound d. The children have listened to stories with d in the title. They have learnt the shape of the letter and looked for the letter in the sand and around the classroom. They have collected items beginning with d and placed them in our basket. The children have learnt new rhymes liked with the letter sound eg Dr Foster went to ……..

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills this week and they have been investigating diamond shapes. The children have learnt some new number rhymes and they have ordered dogs by size using size vocabulary. They have made dotty repeating patterns.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

 

 The children have learnt about the festival of Diwali this week and heard the story of Rama and Sita. They have decorated doughnuts and tasted dark chocolate. The children have made Rangoli patterns using rice and pasta. The children have decorated biscuits with dots. The children have made dragon food in the outside area and hidden it to try to catch Dewi the dragon. The children hid the food and we checked to see if it had been eaten! They have made a dark den in the outside area.

They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk.  The children have used their fingers to paint with dots. The children have used cotton buds to paint pictures and used dough to create diamond shapes. The children have made gem covered diamond shapes and practiced their sticking skills.

Physical Development

 

The children have practiced fine and gross motor skills this week. They have practiced their dribbling skills with small balls and learnt some simple dances.

Welsh Language Development

The children have practiced simple greetings and revised the weather in welsh. They help to change the weather board. The children have learnt a song about numbers and we have revised feelings/colour vocabulary. The children are learning to ask for snack in welsh.

Our learning this week.

Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 25/9/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound c. We read the story of Solomon Crocodile and other titles beginning with the sound c. The children suggested objects starting with the initial letter and we looked in the sound  basket for some clues. The children have practiced copying the c shape in foam and paint and looked for c shapes in the sand. The children have collected items beginning with c. The children  have learnt the clapping song and new finger rhymes.

Mathematical Development

The children have been practicing their counting skills this week and they have learnt some new rhymes including’ Five little speckled frogs’ and ‘Five little ducks’. The children have practiced counting with a variety of objects in the outside and inside areas. The children have been introduced to a cube and cuboid.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

 

 The children have tasted a variety of foods beginning with the letter c like cucumber and carrots. They have made cheese straws and tasted cheese and crackers. The children have learnt about camouflage in the outside area and made a pretend campfire using collected sticks. They have made a soup in a cauldron!  The children have tasted a cup of tea and we have talked about where tea comes from.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk. They have become very confident using the mood board and like to tell Rhodri how they are feeling. The older children continue to help the younger ones and this is very pleasing to see!  Creative Development.

 The children have have printed with cauliflowers and made caterpillars using paint and courgettes. They have made caterpillars using dough and used crayons to draw pictures. The children have cut up pictures to make a collage.

Physical Development

 

The children have practiced fine and gross motor skills this week. They have practiced their cutting skills in a variety of activities including cutting pictures from a catalogue to make a collage. The children have practiced jumping over obstacles and landing safely.

Welsh Language Development

The children have practiced simple greetings and revised the weather in welsh. They help to change the weather board. The children have learnt  a song about colours and we have revised feelings/colour vocabulary.

Weekly Learning update

   Our Learning this Week

Nursery week ending 18/9/15

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound b. We read the story Big Blue Balloon and other titles beginning with the sound b. The children suggested objects starting with the initial letter and we looked in the sound tub for some clues. The children have practiced copying the b shape in foam and paint. The children have collected items beginning with b. The children have sung rhymes  linked with the sound-’ Ten Green  Bottles’ and ‘ Baa Baa Blacksheep.’

Mathematical Development

The children have sorted buttons and threaded beads on a string. They have weighed out ingredients to make biscuits. We have talked about lining up ‘behind ‘ each other. The children have learnt new number rhymes and played interactive counting games on the computer/whiteboard.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

 

 The children have tasted bread and butter and made brown biscuits. They have experienced a Teddy Bears picnic and eaten food beginning with b and tasted blackcurrant juice. They have learnt to perform the butterfly life cycle in movement. They have investigated bubbles and floated boats in water play. They have bounced balls and used bats. In the outside area, some children have looked for bugs.

                                                        

 

 

 

 

 

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.

The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. They have practiced good sitting and listening.  The children have taken turns to give out the snack and milk. The children have learnt the Please and thankyou Song’. The older children have been encouraged to help the younger children with coats and fastenings. They have done well and we have some lovely helpers!

 Creative Development.

 The children have painted butterflies with blue, black and brown paint. They have  created bubble pictures  using bubbles and paint. The children have used instruments to make a Big Band.  The children have created bridges using the construction equipment and tested their strength with cars. The children have made sandcastles using buckets in the sand area.

Physical Development

 

The children  have learnt the Life cycle of a butterfly using movement and we have created movements to describe the egg, caterpillar ,cocoon and butterfly emerging. The children have threaded beads on a lace to improve their fine motor skills.

Welsh Language Development

The children have practiced simple greetings and revised the weather in welsh. They help to change the weather board. The children have learnt the song ´Beth sy yn y bocs?’
