Our Learning Week
Our Learning this Week
Nursery week ending 4th March 2016
Language, Literacy and Communication
In the last two weeks Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound Q and they have experienced a WELSH WEEK. The children have made cawl and they learnt about the various vegetables mixed into the soup. The children then learned a poem about cawl and they performed it in the Eisteddfod on St David’s Day. The children have tasted welsh cheese and welsh cakes. The children dressed up for World Book Day and they listened to a variety of stories as well as reading activities. |
Mathematical Development
The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 10. The children have been learning to count in welsh. The class have acquired giant Numicon shapes and the children have enjoyed counting balls and objects. They have learnt the colours and shapes using a giant feely bag! |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
. The children have been taste adventurers again this week! They have tasted all the vegetables in the cawl. They have learnt about St David and how important he was in Wales. The children have experienced an Eisteddfod and they entered an art competition. The children have looked at a welsh flag and they now know about the leek and daffodil as symbols of Wales.

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
The children are getting very good at lining up and this week we have seen some lovely moments of caring and sharing. The children have acquired some new toys and we have been pleased to see good examples of group sharing and respect for the new items. |
Creative Development.
The children have made daffodils and leeks this week. They have made Mothering Sunday cards and they have enjoyed trying to copy the dragon on the welsh flag. The children have made patchwork quilts using paper and coloured squares. |
Physical Development
The children have practiced using scissors this week. They have cut out daffodil shapes and used the scissors to cut around dragon shapes. The children have used mark making tools to create pictures of themselves. |
Welsh Language Development
The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories on the whiteboard. They performed their poem in welsh for the Eisteddfod and they have learnt vegetable vocabulary linked with the poem. |
Anything else…
Thank you for your support again this week. Next week we have the photographer in school on Thursday. I will also be holding parent consultations throughout the week. Can I remind everyone about fruit money and to return book bags and homework. Diolch yn fawr. |
