Our Learning this Week
Nursery AM 2nd May 2014
Language, Literacy & Communication
This week Ben and Betty have been teaching us he letter sound “w”. We read “Superworm” and then decided what our own superworm would do. We made our own books with our ideas. We practiced writing w on a piece of paper and rolled it into a “w” wand – see what the wands can spot at home beginning with “w” |
Mathematical Development
We have been looking putting numbers in the correct order. We found the wellies and put them onto the counting stick in order from 0 to 10.
We made worms out of playdough and then measured them against a measuring tape, counting how long our worms were. We talked about longest and shortest, longer and shorter. |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We are getting our nursery garden ready for Swansea in Bloom by doing some weeding. While doing this we found plenty of wiggly worms in the soil. We cooked watercress soup and talked about all the healthy vegetables that were used to make it. Some children thought it was very yummy!

Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
We talked about different types of washing and discussed why we need to wash things.
We looked at the World Wildlife Fund website and talked about how the money raised from the financial fortnight can be sent to help an animal who needs it. The children voted and we will be sponsoring an elephant. |
Creative Development
We looked closely at the colours on a watermelon. We then painted an observational picture of the watermelon, with some very artistic results. We made wheel prints by dipping cars in the paint and rolled them across the paper. We learnt the song “There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden”
|
Physical Development
We did movement to the Write Dance song “The Water Schute” We also played a game with the parachute “Where is…?” – the children crawled to hide under the parachute while we sang a song to find them. |
