Our Learning this Week
Nursery week ending 22/1/16
Language, Literacy and Communication
This week Ben and Betty have introduced us to the sound m. The children have listened to stories with m in the title and they have learnt rhymes beginning with m. They have collected items beginning with m and placed them in our basket. The children have role played this week using a pretend market stall. The children have learnt the new vocabulary associated with a market stall and used money to pay for their shopping. |
Mathematical Development
The children have been practicing their counting skills again this week and learning to recognise numbers 1 to 5. The children have responded well to stories about the numbers 1-5.The children have been practicing the concept of ’one more’ in numeracy and they have used pretend money in the market stall. |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
The children have learnt about mice this week. They have tasted melon,mango, marmite on toast and marmalade. The children have played with mud and made mud pies and muddy handprints in the outside area. The children have tasted marshmallows and made marshmallow men.

Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
The children have been reminded about taking turns and sharing toys and equipment again this week. We have talked about good manners this week and how it is important to say please and thankyou. |
Creative Development.
The children have painted and made mice masks. They have made marshmallow men. The children have made models of their favourite animal using the construction equipment. |
Physical Development
The children have played some new games this week and learnt some simple rules. They have practiced their fine motor skills and their cutting skills are improving. We have enjoyed playing outside with the balls and using the bikes and scooters. The children have learnt to move like different animals. |
Welsh Language Development
The children are continuing to develop their greetings and they are now responding well to simple instructions. The children are responding well to stories read to them in welsh and responding to welsh stories. The children have been baking their heart biscuits for St Dwynwen’s Day next week. |

Reception
27th November 2015
Language, Literacy and Communication
We read “The Scarecrow’s Wedding” and looked at what celebrations make us happy. We talked about the characters Betty and Harry, drew them and described them. We have been playing letter sounds games on the white board and playing hairy letters on the i-pad this week. |
Mathematical Development
We have been using the number lne to help us count this week. We played a game where we closed our eyes and Mrs. Amirat hid a card. We had to tell her which number was missing. We have also practised writing our numbers with a fishing game. |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We compared the properties of objects in the forest this week. We looked at dry dead sticks and soft new sticks. We talked about which ones would be best to light the fire. We also described what our toasted marshmallows tasted like after cooking them on the fire. |
Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
We talked about Road Safety week and safe places to cross the road. We also talked about keeping safe around the fire pit in forest schools. |
Creative Development
We decided to make a wedding card for Betty and Harry. We looked at some real wedding card designs and then decided what we wanted to cut and stick or draw on our own. Some children even decided to write a message inside. We have continued to learn our Christmas songs and they are sounding great. |
Physical Development
We had PE with Jonathan on Monday. We had our first Dough Disco session this week. We each had a ball of dough and we danced to “Happy” while our hands did lots of work rolling, squashing and prodding the dough – all strengthening the muscles in our hands for writing. |
Welsh Language Development
We have been saying our numbers in welsh during some maths activities.
We have also learnt the names of the parts of our face when playing a scarecrow dice game. |

Our Learning this Week
Reception
20th November 2015
Language, Literacy and Communication
We have had lots of fun playing in our new party role play area and lots of talk about parties we have been to. We read Kipper’s Birthday Party and looked at how to write an invitation.

Mathematical Development
We have been looking at repeating patterns this week. We have made patterns using ourselves, our hand movements, pegboards and the sorting teddies. Can you find something to make a pattern with at home?

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We also went to the creativity pod to use the computers to draw a happy face on Tizzy’s Tools. We were learning to use the mouse with control and find letters on the keyboard to write out=r names We decided to make cakes from the same recipe Kipper used in the story…yummy rock cakes. |
Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
It was Anti Bullying week this week and we celebrated by listening to a story about bullying and then talking about who we could talk to if someone was hurting them. |
Creative Development
We made some party food with the play dough. We had layered cakes, and different shaped cookies…mmmmmm. We made super anti bulling masks to wear to an anti bullying assembly |
Physical Development
We had PE with Jonathan on Monday and we also practised our listening skills by playing some traditional party games like musical statues and musical bumps

Welsh Language Development
We are becoming very good at counting in Welsh – Da Iawn!!] We have also enjoyed singing our Welsh songs. |
Anything else…
We have Forest School every Wednesday until Christmas holidays, so please send your child into school with the correct clothing. The forest is muddy and cold so please dress your child in layers with a waterproof trousers, coat and wellies. They will also need a change of clothes which include pants, socks and shoes to change into when they return to school. Thanks

Our weekly update 13.11.15 Reception A
Our Learning this Week
Reception
13th November 2015
Language, Literacy and Communication
We received an email message from Snow White this week. She needed our help because she wanted to have a party for the dwarves but she didn’t know what she needed. The children wrote lists of what she would need to have a party and we set it up as our new role play area. |
Mathematical Development
We did some great counting in our head to match the claps with the Numicon shapes. We also started to look at subtraction by counting teddies onto a boat and then seeing how many were left if we took 1 or 2 away.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Our special sound this week is “h” and in the forest we talked about hibernation. The children had to build a house for the puppet animals that would keep them warm and cosy for winter. We used leaves and sticks to make the animal houses. |
Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity.
We learnt about Diwali, the festival of light and we did activities in Mrs. Land’s class. As it was Pudsey day, we looked at some video stories on the Children in Need website to find out about how our money helps other children. |
Creative Development
We marked Remembrance Day by making some beautiful poppy pictures using sponge stampers. We also decorated some bunting to put up in our new party role play area. We also painted our happy faces and looked at similarities and difference between us and our friends. |
Physical Development
We had PE with Jonathan on Monday and in the forest we used our gross motor skills for balancing on a wibbly wobbly rope bridge. We all felt proud of completing this challenge.

Welsh Language Development
We started learning the body parts in Welsh and we sang some Welsh songs. |
Anything else…
