Our Learning this Week

Nursery 26th September 2014

Language, Literacy & Communication

Ben and Betty have been teaching us the sound “c” this week.

We have read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and loved it when he turned into a beautiful butterfly.
We looked at pictures from the story and talked about then and tried to put them in the right order.

Mathematical Development

We looked at patterns and tried to make a repeating pattern using carrot and cucumber to make the caterpillar’s body.

We are getting very good at counting how many children are in class each day – Diawn!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

On Welly Wednesday we went outside to collect different types of leaves. We found green leaves, yellow leaves and orange leaves.  Some leaves were smooth and some were crunchy.

We brought them back to the classroom to use for an art activity.

Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity

Children are becoming more confident to talk about their feelings during check in time with Rhodri. A few are even feeling confident enough to tell us reasons for their feelings.

Creative Development

We used the leaves we collected from our Welly Walk to make an Autumn crown. We stuck leaves onto a cardboard band and decorated them with differ colours.

We wore our Autumn crowns while we sang this song:

“All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down   (Imitate leaves falling down)
All the leaves are falling down, it is autumn.

Take the rake and rake them up, rake them up, rake them up  (Imitate raking leaves)
Take the rake and rake them up, it is autumn.

Make a pile and jump right in, jump right in, jump right in,  (Children jump forward)
Make a pile and jump right in, it is autumn.”

Physical Development

On Move it Monday we did some counting different movements to warm up and then we did some physical literacy using the Hungry Caterpillar book. We listened to the story and decided what shapes we needed to make our bodies to act out the story. It was lots of fun and the children loved pretending to look for food.

Welsh Language Development

We are continuing to practise saying “Bore Da” (good morning) and “Prynhawn Da” (good afternoon) when the register is being taken. We have also been learning to say “Ga i…” (Can I have…) during snack time.

Anything else!

Why not have a go at playing the cute caterpillar counting song on the attached sheet the weekend – have fun!

Don’t forget to return your data sheets and home-school agreement as soon as possible, Thanks

Have a great weekend
