Ben and Betty have been teaching us the letter sound “z” this week. We read “Dear Zoo” and had lots of fun making the animal noises. We made zig-zag books about zoo animals.
|
Mathematical Development
We have talked about pattern when looking at Zebras. We have been practising counting to 10 with our Rugby Tots moves. We have been singing lots of number rhymes where we take away one – five little ducks, five speckled frogs, – so that the children learn the idea of one less.
|
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Swansea in Bloom is fast approaching so the children have continued to care for the flowers y watering them. We have also planted more flowers in buckets, wellies and milk bottles. I hope you like how the garden is looking! |
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
We talked about keeping safe near roads to fit in with our Walking Bus event. Children played road safety games on the computer and we had a zebra crossing outside with the bikes. |
Creative Development
We made a zebra z and practised our cutting skills to cut the black paper. We then talked about the zebra’s pattern and made that on the z shape – They looked great. We have also drawn stripy patterns on the zebras on Penpals on the interactive whiteboard. We learnt the song “Daddy’s taking us to the zoo tomorrow”. |
Physical Development
Rugby Tots were here for Move-it Monday and we practised throwing and kicking the rugby ball. We took part in The Walking Bus around the school grounds. I was very proud of how sensible the children were. Thanks for your kind donations for a good cause. |
Welsh Language Development
We have done some big counting in Welsh this week, counting all the children in class.
|
Anything else!
Please remember to put suncream on your child before coming into nursery during the hot weather. You can also send them in with a sun hat for added protection. Don’t forget to let me know if you are coming in the school trip to Pembrey – £5 per adult, free for children. |

Nursery Healthy Eating Week 06/06/2014
Our Learning this Week
Nursery 6th June 2014 – Healthy Eating Week
Language, Literacy & Communication
We had a focus on food this week for Healthy Eating Week, so we learned the rhyme, Old Mother Hubbard. The children were given the challenge to think of food that could go into the empty cupboard….but only healthy food.
|
Mathematical Development
We made repeating patterns with pictures of our favourite fruits.
We practised our counting along a number line, adding pictures of fruit as we counted. |
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We made a very healthy egg salad for our cooking this week. Children made decisions about what types of vegetables they wanted in their salad and then topped it with some egg. An easy way to try new healthy foods. We noticed that all the plants we had planted outside were a little bit dry so we all worked together to water them to help them grow. |
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
We discussed what benefits different kinds of healthy foods gave us – protein in meat, fish and eggs to make our muscles grow, fruit and vegetables to give us vitamins, carbohydrates in bread, pasta and rice to give us energy and dairy products to make our bones and teeth strong. The children were good at remembering that foods like crisps, sweets, and cakes are only small treats. |
Creative Development
We coloured in the different food groups on a special colouring sheet which was laminated to make a placemat to use when eating our healthy food at home.
We looked at pictures of different fruits and clapped out the patterns, |
Physical Development
We practised our scissor skills when choosing healthy foods to cut and stick into Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboard. Rugby Tots were here for Move-it Monday and will continue for the next 6 weeks. As part of Healthy Eating Week we used a trial of Fab 5 Fitness – five minute exercise videos, where we pretended to be footballers, cowboys and cowgirls, and hula dancing.
|
Welsh Language Development
We continued to practice the Welsh “Dwi’n hoffi…” to say “I like…” when talking about their favourite healthy foods.
|
Anything else!
Please remember to send your child into school in comfortable clothes and trainers for Move-it Mondays, as we will be very active in the hall. Thanks |

We read the book called “Oliver’s Vegetabes”, a story about a boy who played a game with his Grandpa to see if he would try new vegetables. Children were keen to tell me what vegetables they did and didn’t like. Children had a go at writing their names for their mother’s day pictures. |

Tedi Twt likes his vegetables because he knows they keep him healthy, so he asked the children to sort the pictures but only put the vegetables on the picnic basket. The children listened to the welsh word for each vegetable and had a go at saying the word themselves – moron (carrot), pys (peas), brocolis (broccoli), pupur (pepper), yd (sweetcorn), tomato.
