Our Learning this Week
Nursery 3rd October 2014
Language, Literacy & CommunicationBen and Betty have been teaching us the sound “d” this week.
We practiced making big wavy blue lines on large pieces of paper to let the 5 little ducks swim along when we sang Five Little Ducks. We attempted to draw some letter d’s on the scrimbling table – Diawn pawb! |
Mathematical DevelopmentWe practised our counting by putting playdough dots on the Dalmatian dogs. We had to look at the number which told us how many dots to put on. We looked at over and under outside on Welly Wednesday by putting things under the den and over the den. We sang Five Little Ducks and counted how many were left when one little duck didn’t come back.
|
Knowledge and Understanding of the WorldOn Welly Wednesday we had a super time making dens for ducks, dinosaurs and dolls. We used sticks, material, pegs and leaves to make the dens. They were fantastic!
This week’s cooking was making dotty dinosaur biscuits. |
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity We read “Danny goes to the Dentist” and talked about looking after our teeth. We have listened to the Brushing Teeth song on the whiteboard while we have been brushing teeth this week. |
Creative Development We made dotty ducks by holding onto a stick with our pincer grip and making dots on the duck. They looked very pretty when we had finished.
We also made daffodils for our Cwtch Cwmreag after talking about how they are the special flower for Wales. |
Physical DevelopmentNo move it Monday this week, but we have been joining in with lots of action songs every day – “heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, “BINGO”, “The Wheels on the Bus” We have some groovy movers in our class! |
Welsh Language Development Children sat with Mrs. Stone in the Cwtch Cwmreag and read a book called “Bore Da Doli” and the children joined in with the story when it came to saying Bore Da.
|
Anything else!We still have some data sheets and home school agreements outstanding so I will be asking for these next week. Next week we are learning the letter sound “e” and will be doing the “Elmer” story. Find out some facts about elephants, such as where they live, what they like to eat, etc, that your child can share with their friends next week. Thanks Have a great weekend |

Language, Literacy & Communication
Ben and Betty have been teaching us the sound “c” this week. We have read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and loved it when he turned into a beautiful butterfly. |
Mathematical Development
We looked at patterns and tried to make a repeating pattern using carrot and cucumber to make the caterpillar’s body. We are getting very good at counting how many children are in class each day – Diawn!
|
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
On Welly Wednesday we went outside to collect different types of leaves. We found green leaves, yellow leaves and orange leaves. Some leaves were smooth and some were crunchy. We brought them back to the classroom to use for an art activity. |
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
Children are becoming more confident to talk about their feelings during check in time with Rhodri. A few are even feeling confident enough to tell us reasons for their feelings. |
Creative Development
We used the leaves we collected from our Welly Walk to make an Autumn crown. We stuck leaves onto a cardboard band and decorated them with differ colours. We wore our Autumn crowns while we sang this song: “All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down (Imitate leaves falling down) Take the rake and rake them up, rake them up, rake them up (Imitate raking leaves) Make a pile and jump right in, jump right in, jump right in, (Children jump forward) |
Physical Development
On Move it Monday we did some counting different movements to warm up and then we did some physical literacy using the Hungry Caterpillar book. We listened to the story and decided what shapes we needed to make our bodies to act out the story. It was lots of fun and the children loved pretending to look for food.
|
Welsh Language Development
We are continuing to practise saying “Bore Da” (good morning) and “Prynhawn Da” (good afternoon) when the register is being taken. We have also been learning to say “Ga i…” (Can I have…) during snack time.
|
Anything else!
Why not have a go at playing the cute caterpillar counting song on the attached sheet the weekend – have fun! Don’t forget to return your data sheets and home-school agreement as soon as possible, Thanks Have a great weekend |

Ben and Betty have been teaching us the sound “b” this week. It was Tedi Twt’s birthday this week so on Monday the children talked about birthdays and planned what they wanted to do for Tedi Twt’s birthday. We have lots of places to practice our writing and the children have been having a go at writing “b” on the scrimbling table and the white board in the writing area. |
Mathematical Development
We used the bears in the maths area this week. We matched the different sized bears to the pattern cards and we sorted the bears into different colours and different sizes.
|
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
On Welly Wednesday we went on a bug hunt. We explored under plants and rocks and caught some bugs in a special catcher to put in our bug boxes. We found a caterpillar, a very big spider, a beetle, slugs and a bee. We were very kind and put them back in the garden after we had all looked at the bugs. |
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
We looked at our baby photos and talked about what babies need and how we are different now. We had fun guessing which of our friends was in the baby photo. |
Creative Development
We made symmetrical butterflies using paint and folding the butterflies in half to make the pattern. These beautiful butterflies with be decorating our reading garden. When we came back from our bug hunt we used the play dough to make our own bugs. |
Physical Development
On Move it Monday we played a bean game. We had to listen to the instructions and do the action – Jumping bean, jelly bean, baked bean and runner bean – Ask your child to show you the game.
|
